Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli IIM

Course Details

Course Description

Credits
Students enrolled in the PGPM are required to complete 96 credits made up of 51 credits in the 1st year and 45 in the 2nd year. The institute uses the concept of credit to define the weightage of a course in the curriculum. Courses are listed as one, two or three credit courses depending on the indicated workload for each course. The generally accepted thumb rule is that a three credit course involves about 100 hours of work, about 30% in the class room and the balance outside the class - in preparation and assignments. One and two credit courses would have a proportionately lesser workload.

The first year of the programme offers courses covering various disciplines exposing the students to different facets of business management. On completion of these core courses, the programme provides the option of choosing electives from a pool of specialized courses during the second year. The elective courses are designed to nurture future managers in the area of their interests, aligning them with their career goals and objectives. Students also undertake a Summer Internship Programme and a "Make a Difference" Team project as part of the curriculum.

Second year comprises of various Elective courses -
1. Economy and Public Policy
2. Finance and Accounting
3. Management Information System
4. Marketing
5. Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management
6. Operations Management and Quantitative Techniques
7. Strategy
8. General Management

Admission procedure

Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (also referred to herein as IIM Trichy or IIM T) plans to have a batch size of one hundred and eighty (180) students for the PGP batch of 2017-19. This document details the process that would be adopted for selecting candidates for admission to the PGP at IIM Trichy for the batch of 2017-19. IIM T reserves the right to modify any part of this document including the various criteria and cut offs mentioned therein at any time till the admission process for the batch is completed.

The admission process of IIM Trichy takes into consideration the candidate's performance in CAT, performance in Personal Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT), academic record and relevant work experience.

The criteria that would be used to select candidates for Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test (PI & WAT) are shown below:

IIM T will use CAT percentile for shortlisting candidates for PI & WAT.

PI & WAT venues:
The Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test would be conducted at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. The exact date for PI & WAT will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates by IIM Rohtak which is co-ordinating for 2017-19 batch on behalf of IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya & IIM Sambalpur (also referred to as "9 IIMs").

In cases where candidates have been shortlisted by the 9 IIMs as well as older IIMs, IIM Rohtak would obtain the PI & WAT scores of such candidates directly from the older IIMs. Such candidates will be informed in advance by IIM Rohtak, and they need not appear for the common PI & WAT of the "9 IIMs"

Criteria that would be used to select candidates post Personal Interview (PI) and Written Analysis Test (WAT):
The following will be the parameters and corresponding weightages used to arrive at the composite score of the candidates, which will be used to prepare the final merit list for admissions.

Please note that the sub-parameters used under each head are also mentioned below, (for e.g., the WAT examines the candidate's vocabulary, content of writing and writing skills).

1. CAT score: 50 per cent weightage.

2. Written Analysis Test (15 per cent weightage):
Vocabulary, content of writing and writing skills

3. Personal Interview (15 per cent weightage):
-Academic Efforts and Disposition
-Managerial and Leadership Attributes
-General Awareness and Disposition
-Communication, Attitude, and Personality
-Co-curricular and Extra-curricular Activities

4. Work experience (based on quantum and quality of work experience): 5 per cent weightage

5. Performance at Undergraduate level: 10 per cent weightage.

This performance shall be measured by multiplying the percentage marks scored by the weightage applicable to the discipline as shown below. 10 per cent of the score so obtained shall be considered in the overall evaluation. [UG performance score = (per cent score at UG * discipline weightage)* 0.10]

To encourage diversity in the batch, differential weightage, as shown below, shall be applied to different disciplines:
-Engineering / Technology: 0.6
-Science: 0.8
-Arts / Medicine (including Pharmacy): 0.9
-Commerce / Economics / Management: 1.0

6. Master's degree or Professional Qualification: 2 per cent weightage
(Pass in the Master Degree / final examinations of CA / ICWA/ CS)

7. Gender Diversity: 3 per cent weightage for female candidates.
